Manchester City Strengthens Defence With Signing Of Rebecca Knaak From FC Rosengard

Manchester City has signed defender Rebecca Knaak from FC Rosengard on a one-and-a-half-year deal. The move aims to bolster the squad amid injury concerns as they pursue success in the Women's Super League.

Manchester City have strengthened their squad by acquiring defender Rebecca Knaak from FC Rosengard. This marks City's first signing in the January transfer window. Knaak has agreed to a one-and-a-half-year contract with the club. The 28-year-old was instrumental in Rosengard's 2024 title success, earning the league's Defender of the Year award.

Knaak's impressive performance saw Rosengard lose only one league match and concede just nine goals throughout the season. Additionally, she scored 12 goals in the Damallsvenskan, ranking as the joint-sixth-highest scorer, only four goals shy of leading the chart.

"It feels exciting to be here. I think the WSL is the best league in the world right now," Knaak expressed to Manchester City's media channels. "When I heard about the interest, I didn't have to think about it because it's such a big, big opportunity which I wanted to take."

Knaak mentioned that her familiarity with Therese Sjogran, Women's Director of Football, played a role in her decision. "I really trust her and her abilities, so it gives me a good feeling," she said. She added that City's high ambitions align with her own goals.

The addition of Knaak comes at a crucial time for Gareth Taylor's team, which is currently dealing with injuries to key players. Among those sidelined is captain Alex Greenwood, who recently underwent surgery. Despite these challenges, City are second in the Women's Super League standings.

Currently trailing Chelsea by six points, Manchester City aims to close this gap with their new signing. Knaak expressed pride and honour in joining such a prestigious club and is eager to begin contributing to their success.
