Khadija Shaw Shines As Manchester City Women Seal The 2025-26 WSL Title With A 4-1 Win Over West Ham

Manchester City ended a title-winning Women’s Super League season with a 4-1 win over West Ham, highlighted by Khadija Shaw’s brace and a farewell goal for Laura Coombs. Shaw reached 100 direct WSL goal contributions in the game, while Manchester City produced a dominant attacking display away at Chigwell Construction Stadium.

Shaw’s opener marked contribution number 100 in the WSL and moved to 101 by full-time, with 83 goals and 18 assists now on record. That total places Shaw sixth on the all-time list behind Vivianne Miedema, Beth Mead, Bethany England, Nikita Parris and Fran Kirby, underlining Shaw’s place among the league’s leading forwards.

The 29-year-old also secured the Golden Boot, finishing the campaign with 21 league goals, one short of the single-season record of 22. Against West Ham, Shaw led Manchester City in expected goals with 1.07, registered nine touches inside the box and created three chances, matching the highest total for chances created in the match.

Manchester City’s attacking control appeared clearly in the underlying data. Andree Jeglertz’s team generated 3.19 expected goals from 16 shots, compared with West Ham’s 1.75 from 17 efforts. The visitors were efficient in dangerous areas, while West Ham produced similar shot volume but from less threatening positions over the 90 minutes.

Team Shots Expected Goals (xG)
Manchester City 16 3.19
West Ham 17 1.75

The scoring began on 13 minutes when Alex Greenwood headed a ball into the area and Jade Rose finished sharply on the turn. Manchester City then suffered a setback as Lauren Hemp left before half-time with an injury, but the champions stayed in control and built a platform for the second-half surge.

After the interval, Aoba Fujino delivered a low cross that Shaw converted to extend the lead. Seraina Piubel quickly replied for West Ham, yet Shaw made it 3-1 on 72 minutes with a composed one-on-one finish into the bottom-right corner past Kinga Szemik. Coombs later saw a deflected strike loop beyond the goalkeeper in a fitting final appearance.

This fixture may be Shaw’s final WSL appearance for Manchester City, with no new contract agreed so far. Manchester City now turn attention to the FA Cup final against Brighton next week, aiming to complete a domestic double after sealing the Women’s Super League title with this strong performance against West Ham.
