Manchester United's topsy-turvy time in the Premier League has stretched in 2024, as the Red Devils have failed to assert any consistency in this calendar year.
A year that promised a lot for them with a potential influx of new owner, things have rather been underwhelming on the pitch for the coveted English club. Despite winning the FA Cup in 2023-24 season, the general performance and league outcome have disappointed the entire fan base.

Erik Ten Hag, who spearheaded the team at the start of 2024 has left, whose place is now being taken by Ruben Amorim. After finishing 8th in the 2023-24 season, Man United are currently placed 13th in the Premier League.
In 2024, Man United have signed five players - all of them coming in the summer window this year.
Joshua Zirkzee (Bologna) - £39m
Leny Yoro (Lille) - £47m
Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern) - £58m
Noussair Mazroui (Bayern) - £25m
Manuel Ugarte (PSG) - £34m
Among the five players, some have taken positive strides already in the team. Although the overall performance of Man United hasn't been noteworthy, a few players have showcased their class.
The former Bayern Munich right-back has been excellent for Manchester United in patches since joining the club. Mazraoui has shown all the attributes to hone his skills at that position and is so far looking as United's best signing in terms of the cost and the return.
Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt has been a decent summer acquisition for Manchester United. After his move from Bayern Munich, the 25-year-old has hit the ground running with some commanding defensive performances, the latest of which came in their victory at Man City. De Ligt has so far played 22 times for the Red Devils across all competitions. The former Bayern player has adapted to the Premier League in a decent manner so far but will need to be more consistent.
Manuel Ugarte has found a place at the midfield at Old Trafford. The Uruguayan has had different roles in the different combinations, but so far has done his job properly at the centre of midfield. His biggest contribution has been in defence, as Ugarte has managed to break attacks, make crucial interceptions and assert a formidable presence in aerial duels.
In terms of the other players, none have been glaringly poor. Leny Yoro, who was a big-money signing, has just started playing after suffering an injury earlier in the year. Joshua Zirkzee has also been decent at times but has just 5 goal contributions (3 Goals, 2 Assists) in 23 appearances.
Considering the money the club spent on the players and their return so far in the season, here are the ratings of all five Manchester United signings this season.
| Player | Cost (in £) | Rating |
| Matthijs de Ligt | 58 mil | 7/10 |
| Manuel Ugarte | 34 mil | 7/10 |
| Noussair Mazraoui | 25 mil | 7.5/10 |
| Joshua Zirkjee | 39 mil | 4/10 |
| Leny Yoro | 47 mil | 5/10 |
