Manchester United Triumphs 3-2 Over Bodo/Glimt With Hojlund's Brace In Amorim's Debut Match

Rasmus Hojlund scored two goals to lead Manchester United to a 3-2 victory against Bodo/Glimt. This win marked Ruben Amorim's first home match as manager, showcasing a strong performance despite an early deficit.

Rasmus Hojlund's two goals were crucial in Manchester United's 3-2 comeback victory over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. This match marked Ruben Amorim's first home game as manager, following a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town. The Portuguese coach faced a challenging start when Bodo/Glimt quickly overturned Alejandro Garnacho's early goal. However, Hojlund's strikes on either side of halftime secured the win, leaving United just one point shy of the top eight in the league phase.

United took an early lead within 50 seconds, capitalising on Nikita Haikan's hesitation. Garnacho seized the opportunity to score into an open net. However, Hakon Evjen equalised with a stunning left-footed shot, and Philip Zinckernagel soon put Bodo/Glimt ahead by overpowering Tyrell Malacia and finding the bottom-left corner. Hojlund levelled the score before halftime with a volley from Noussair Mazraoui's cross and then completed a well-executed move five minutes into the second half from Manuel Ugarte's pass.

Hojlund Shines in United's 3-2 Victory

Garnacho had two promising chances but failed to convert them, sending one effort high and wide during a four-on-two break. Marcus Rashford also missed an opportunity to extend United's lead by shooting wide. Despite these missed chances, United managed to secure Amorim's first victory as manager with a narrow win.

This match was notable for being only the second time an away team scored twice within 23 minutes against Manchester United in a major European competition. The previous instance was against Sporting Braga in October 2012 when Amorim played for Braga. Garnacho’s goal after just 48 seconds marked United’s fastest opening goal in European competition since Brian McClair scored against Montpellier in March 1991.

Under Amorim’s leadership, United have now won their last two European matches, including a 2-0 victory over PAOK Salonika under Ruud van Nistelrooy and this recent win against Bodo/Glimt. This is more than they achieved in their last eleven matches under former manager Erik ten Hag, where they managed only one win alongside five draws and five losses.

The victory offers Amorim some relief as he begins his tenure at Old Trafford. It highlights his potential to guide Manchester United back to success on the European stage while building on this positive momentum.
