Manchester United 4-3 Liverpool: Three Things we learned from Red Devils' FA Cup Win

Manchester United pulled off a monumental win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals on Sunday at Old Trafford.

Amad Diallo scored a 121st-minute winner as the Red Devils prevailed 4-3 over their bitter rivals in an epic match to ensure an FA Cup semifinal berth.

Manchester United vs Liverpool

It was an emotional afternoon in Manchester as they managed their first win over the Reds since August, 2022. It was a huge victory for Erik ten Hag and his team, who will now be marching on to Wembley for the semifinal in April.

Manchester United vs Liverpool; Three Things We Learned

Scott McTominay's drought is Over

Scott McTominay was on target again for the Red Devils. This time he found the net in the 10th minute to give them the lead, and also ended a five-match goal drought for himself. The midfielder has been in prolific goal-scoring touch this season, having netted 9 goals already across all competitions.

The Scottish midfielder has made 11 goal contributions already, which is more than his combined tally of the previous two seasons. Although McTominay's goal wasn't the winner, his early strike set the tone of the classic match.

Manchester United continue domination in FA Cup

The Red Devils, with the win, continue their domination in the domestic cup competitions against Liverpool. This is their fourth win in the last five cup matches over the Merseyside team. Although the league record speaks a different tale, Man United have managed to be on the right side of the line when it comes to the Cup games. In the last meeting also, they pulled off a 3-2 win over Liverpool in 2021.

Breathing Space for Erik Ten Hag

After the defeat against Man City in the derby, Erik Ten Hag was walking on thin ice. The victory over Everton was a respite, and now this result has given the Dutch manager some breathing space. This epic victory keeps Manchester United's hope for a trophy alive and they will be hoping to capitalise at the latter half of this season. Eric Ten Hag's team hasn't been up to the mark in the Premier League, but this monumental win over Liverpool at least bides him some time to recuperate.
