Manchester United have reached a preliminary agreement to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli, presenting the Scotland midfielder with a choice about his future at the club.
The Serie A champions have proposed a fee of approximately £25 million, which United have accepted. However, McTominay must agree on personal terms and decide to leave Old Trafford for the transfer to proceed.

McTominay, who joined United in 2013, has made 255 appearances and scored 29 goals. This season, he has appeared in all three games as a substitute.
If McTominay leaves, the funds could be allocated towards acquiring Manuel Ugarte. The Uruguay international has been a priority for United, but there has been a discrepancy in the valuation between the two clubs. As McTominay is a homegrown player, his transfer fee would be recorded as pure profit in PSR accounts.
United have reluctantly considered selling McTominay to generate funds for their summer spending spree. Earlier this summer, they rejected an offer from Fulham as they sought a higher fee for the Scotland international. Last summer, McTominay attracted interest from clubs like West Ham but chose to stay and scored a career-best 10 goals.
McTominay's contract is entering its final year and United have an option to extend it by 12 months. The club is open to listening to offers for the Scotland international. The decision now rests with McTominay on whether he wants to continue his journey at Old Trafford or embark on a new chapter with Napoli.
Man United are also keen to offload McTominay as they have set their sights on Manuel Ugarte. For McTominay, a move to Italy can be a fresh start. Although he has been excellent for the Red Devils in the recent past, the player can thrive further at Naples.
