Manchester United Always Looking To Improve Squad Amid Transfer Speculations

Ruben Amorim has been reserved about Manchester United's transfer plans, though he acknowledged their ongoing efforts to strengthen the squad. Last season, United ended in 15th place, marking their worst Premier League finish. To address this, they have signed forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, along with 18-year-old defender Diego Luna.

Despite these additions, United continues to be linked with new players, particularly a striker and a goalkeeper. Their past struggles have prompted interest in RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and goalkeepers Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma. Amorim commented on potential signings: "To hope is a strong word. We are always looking to improve the team."

Andre Onana joined United in July 2023 but has struggled for consistency over two seasons. He has kept 18 clean sheets but made six errors leading to shots, four resulting in goals. Opta's expected goals on target model indicates Onana prevented 6.7 goals while conceding 90.

Amorim remains optimistic about Onana's improvement alongside other goalkeepers like Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir. "Even Tom is leaner, he's a different goalkeeper," Amorim noted, expressing confidence in their development.

United faced challenges up front last season as no player reached double figures in league goals for 2024-25. Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo were top scorers with eight goals each. This shortcoming has fueled speculation about acquiring additional attacking talent.

The Red Devils' pursuit of Benjamin Sesko aims to address this scoring issue. Amorim emphasized that any further signings depend on market conditions and sales: "It depends on the market. It depends on the sales."

Pre-Season Performance

In the Premier League Summer Series, United have won both matches against West Ham and Bournemouth. They lead the table and need just one point against Everton in Atlanta to secure the pre-season tournament title.

Mbeumo has yet to play since joining last month but is set to feature against Everton. Amorim expressed enthusiasm about his debut: "I'm really excited to see him play and what he can give to our team," he said of the Cameroonian forward.

The team's recent performances hint at potential improvements for the upcoming season. As they continue evaluating transfer opportunities, United aims to build on their pre-season success while addressing key areas of concern.
