Manchester United to back Jose Mourinho in January window

Mourinho wants to boost his squad with new faces, including a left-back, ring winger and creative midfielder in the No 10 role.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho

Bengaluru, December 5: Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will be handed an £80million war-chest in January to revamp his squad as per reports in England.

The United boss met with club chiefs last week to discuss their plans for next month's window as he looks desperate to catch up with Manchester City in the title race and it is believed that the Red Devils hierarchy will back the Portuguese in January.

The Red Devils are in the hunt for the Premier League title along with rivals City after an impressive start to the season but there is a formidable gap between the two giants of Manchester as the Cityzens look like a team from another planet.

Mourinho wants to boost his squad with new faces, including a left-back, ring winger and creative midfielder in the No 10 role. Particarly, the manager is unhappy with the lack of creative spark in his team and wants Mesut Ozil to solve the big problem.

And it is thought some of the United squad will be axed to help boost the kitty including Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian.

An Old Trafford source said: “Jose met with some of the clubs top brass including Woodward last week and could have a pretty penny to spend.

“It sounds like some of the summer budget is being advanced into January. Jose is also looking to get rid of some players.

“Shaw and Darmian are in the firing line. There's a few key positions he wants to fill throughout the squad.”

Newcastle were interested in signing 22-year-old Luke Shaw but have been put off by United's £20million asking price. Spurs are also interested in the former Southampton ace and we could very well see a deal involving Danny Rose for Luke Shaw as Rose is believed to be a target of Mourinho.

Darmian is set to be sold as well, with Sevilla and Roma both ready to swoop for the 27-year-old, who has been priced at £15million.

United boosted their title hopes in the weekend with a stunning 3-1 win against Arsenal at the Emirates despite being the second best side in the game by some distance. It was David de Gea's heroics that single-handedly saved the Red Devils from dropping points.
