Manchester United Ready To Move In The Right Direction Under Carrick For 2026-27
Michael Carrick sets a clear target for Manchester United’s 2026-27 season, stressing that the squad aims to compete seriously for every competition after securing a Champions League return. Carrick says the group is "ready to kick on" in what will be a first full campaign in charge.
The former United midfielder becomes permanent head coach in May on a two-year deal after impressing as interim during 2025-26. Carrick replaces Ruben Amorim, who leaves in January, and quickly guides United up the Premier League table.

United finish third under Carrick, ensuring a place in the 2026-27 Champions League and restoring some stability. The club has not lifted a major trophy since the FA Cup win in 2023-24 under Erik ten Hag, heightening focus on ending that run next season.
Carrick uses a column in Manchester United’s official yearbook to outline expectations and stress responsibility. "We know that we need to keep improving. We have a huge responsibility here to win and play exciting football. That never changes, and we should always be striving to compete for the biggest trophies. There are steps to take, but we are in a good place to take them. We've got a fantastic group of players, and we believe they have the required standards of talent, commitment and determination to be successful here. They love being at the club, and we can see how badly they want it; that gives us the confidence to know we're really building something and moving in the right direction."
Since taking over in January, Carrick oversees 17 competitive matches across all tournaments. United win 12, draw three and lose two in that spell, giving a strong base ahead of the new campaign and lifting optimism among the squad and supporters.
Across that period, no other Premier League side records more wins, with United’s 12 victories matched by a league-high 33 goals scored. The data underlines a clear attacking improvement during Carrick’s tenure, backing the coach’s belief that standards are rising inside the dressing room.

Carrick also highlights the need to show that level over a full league schedule and while juggling Europe. "We know we've got what it takes to beat the best teams in this league. Now it's about doing that over a full Premier League campaign, while also fighting for every trophy available to us. I cannot wait to lead the group forward next season and for those special European nights to return to Old Trafford. We are ready to kick on and give you more of the great moments that United are all about."
Manchester United’s recruitment remains quiet so far, with no confirmed signings ahead of the 2026-27 season. The club is, however, understood to be close to an agreement for Atalanta and Brazil midfielder Ederson as Carrick looks to refine the squad.

Midfield options such as Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville and Chelsea’s Andrey Santos are all linked with summer moves to Old Trafford. These names suggest United target energy and versatility as Carrick prepares for domestic and European demands.

Carrick’s words, recent results and early transfer links all point to a clear direction for Manchester United. The team enters 2026-27 on the back of strong form, aiming to turn that progress into trophies while handling the extra demands of Champions League football.
