Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag gives initial verdict on Lisandro Martinez injury amid Southampton win

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has provided a fresh update on an injury after their win over Southampton.

The English giants, despite the fantastic victory, will be worried as a key player hobbled off with a niggle.

Lisandro Martinez

Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez Had to be substituted during the match. The Argentine played 77 minutes, but at the latter stages of the game, United Manager Eric Ten Hag had to take him off due to some discomfort.

Martinez, being such an important member of the United zigsaw, will be a big miss. Although nothing is clear of now, the Dutch manager gave his initial update of the defender.

"We had internationals early in the season, some are short in the pre-season, some come from intercontinental flights then when you have a 12:30 kick-off, you can struggle,” Ten Hag said when asked about Lisandro's injury.

“Hopefully it's nothing serious and we have to assess today and tomorrow," he added.

The 26-year-old had a busy period in the last couple of weeks. He played two international matches for Argentina and was on the pitch for 143 minutes across those two encounters. Argentina secured a 3-0 victory in their first match against Chile, whereas they lost to Colombia in the next match.

If Martinez's injury is something serious, it will be a big blow for Ten Hag and his team. The Argentina paired with his defensive partner Matthijs de Ligt against Southampton and they looked excellent together.

Ten Hag also had a huge sigh of relief as the Red Devils returned to winning ways at St. Mary's Stadium. Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho found the net as they won 3-0. With the victory, United now sit 10th in the league table with 6 points in four matches.
