Manchester United consider song sheets to help improve quiet atmosphere at Old Trafford

London, March 22: Manchester United officials are discussing some potential development in the Old Trafford crowd. According to reports, the Red Devils officials, in an attempt to have a better chant culture and loud atmosphere in the stadium, are considering handing out song sheets to supporters at home games.

In some recent months, manager Jose Mourinho has complained about the backing of the fans at home and criticised them for being too “quiet”. The Portuguese also compared the crowd to the dry atmosphere at Portsmouth's Fratton Park.

“It's not Portsmouth,” he said when asked to explain his comments. “I remember Portsmouth - such a small stadium, the atmosphere was absolutely incredible.

“In here, the atmosphere is a bit quiet and there is not very [much enthusiasm]. But the players like to play at home.”

The questions were recently raised in a meeting of United fan forum and after some discussions, survey a fan representative proposed an idea of giving song sheets to supporters which Old Trafford's head of venue operation said would be looked into.

Speaking regarding the improvement of stadium atmosphere head of venue operations Dan Schofield said: "As you will most likely be aware, the atmosphere at Old Trafford is something which has been frequently commented on of late, both in the media and across social networks and is a subject the club takes very seriously.

"To this end, the senior management plans to further discuss this topic with fan groups and other interested parties and stakeholders to listen to concerns, ideas, etc and then to put forward recommendations to help facilitate positive change. However, our view is that ideally, initiatives should be fan-driven."

To initiate some development, United hierarchy recently provided an away section's seats to United fans who wanted to create a "loud and vibrant atmosphere" during the FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton and the trail was deemed a big success.

Now as per some United hierarchy, more on this matter will be discussed at the next meeting, which is due to take place on May 11 next and we have to wait further to see if the implementation will be done in the stadium in near future.
