Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed that his team might be considered the weakest Premier League side to ever win a European trophy if they secure the Europa League title. Despite being 15th in the Premier League, United have a 3-0 advantage over Athletic Bilbao in their Europa League semi-final, with the second leg set at Old Trafford.
Amorim shared his thoughts during a press conference, stating, "For me, in that moment and you look at Premier League, we are the worst team since I arrived in terms of results. That is my idea. In the end of the season, we can be the worst team in Premier League history with a European title." He acknowledged that this season has been disappointing and believes it could be their worst in 50 years.

United's current position marks a potential first-ever finish outside the top eight in the Premier League. If they end up 15th or lower, it would be their poorest finish since relegation from the top flight in 1973-74. Despite avoiding relegation threats, they are on a six-match winless streak domestically but could still qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.
During a media session, Alejandro Garnacho echoed Amorim's sentiments about their league performance. "We know we are not doing a great job in the Premier League. We follow the rules and tomorrow we will face the game like it is 0-0," he stated. Garnacho emphasised that winning the Europa League would secure them a spot in next season's Champions League and improve their mindset.
The team's current form reflects challenges faced throughout this campaign. Amorim admitted nothing will change immediately despite recognising this as one of United's most challenging seasons. The focus remains on securing European success to offset domestic disappointments.
The possibility of lifting a European trophy while struggling domestically presents an unusual scenario for Manchester United. Winning the Europa League offers not only silverware but also an opportunity to participate in Europe's elite competition next year, potentially turning around what has been a difficult season.
