Manchester United could face more transfer embarrassment with star summer arrival

Manchester United's decision to invest in Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna during the summer transfer window was seen as a much-needed boost to their attack.

Following a season in which the Red Devils struggled for goals, Zirkzee's signing from Bologna, for a fee exceeding his release clause, promised to add firepower to Erik ten Hag's side.

However, just a few months into the season, questions are already being raised about Zirkzee's suitability for the Premier League. Zirkzee's debut for Manchester United could not have gone better, with the Netherlands international netting the winner in his first game against Fulham.

His early contribution raised hopes among United fans that he could be the solution to their goal-scoring problems. However, since that impressive debut, Zirkzee has endured a difficult spell.

Despite being given ample opportunities, he has failed to add to his tally in 10 subsequent appearances, squandering several golden chances and appearing to struggle with confidence. This lack of goals has led to growing concerns over whether the 22-year-old striker can adapt to the demands of the Premier League.

With each missed opportunity, the pressure on Zirkzee has increased, and according to reports, the player is already regretting his decision to move to Manchester. Rumors suggest that Zirkzee may be considering a move back to Italy just a few months after he arrives at Old Trafford.

During the summer transfer window, Zirkzee was reportedly interested in staying in Serie A, with AC Milan initially showing interest. However, a deal with the Italian giants fell through due to high agent fees, leading Zirkzee to make the switch to the Premier League.

Now, it appears that Zirkzee may seek an exit as early as January, with Juventus manager Thiago Motta-who worked with Zirkzee at Bologna-said to be keen on reuniting with the Dutchman.

While Erik ten Hag is unlikely to want to lose his striker mid-season, the possibility of a transfer is gaining momentum, particularly if Zirkzee's performances do not improve in the coming months.

Zirkzee's potential departure could be particularly embarrassing for Manchester United, given the high expectations surrounding his arrival. His struggles have only intensified rumors that United are still interested in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko was reportedly the club's top target over the summer, but after he opted to stay in Germany, United turned their attention to Zirkzee.

If Zirkzee's form fails to improve, United could revisit their interest in Sesko next summer. This could lead to another transfer disappointment for Zirkzee, as the club may explore the possibility of selling him to make room for a more prolific forward.
