What has changed in Manchester United under Erik Ten Hag in the 2024/25 season? When do they play next?

Manchester United kicked off their 2024-25 Premier League campaign on a winning note, thanks to a late strike from new signing Joshua Zirkzee.

The former Bologna forward made an instant impact, coming off the bench to score the decisive goal in the 87th minute, securing a 1-0 victory over Fulham. While the scoreline suggests a narrow win, the match offered plenty of promise for Erik Ten Hag's side, hinting at a brighter season ahead.

What has changed for Manchester United in 2024-25 under Erik Ten Hag?

It's early days, but the signs are encouraging for Manchester United under Erik Ten Hag. Last season was marred by defensive frailties and inconsistency, but the first two games of the new campaign suggest that United may have turned a corner.

The Red Devils, who struggled with one of the worst defensive records last season, appear more organized and disciplined, particularly in the middle of the park.

One of the key changes has been in midfield, where Ten Hag has opted to deploy Kobbie Mainoo alongside Casemiro in a double-pivot.

This adjustment has given United more control in midfield and has allowed Casemiro to play with greater freedom and effectiveness.

The Brazilian, who struggled last season when asked to anchor the midfield alone, has looked rejuvenated in this new setup. United's increased solidity in midfield has, in turn, provided the backline with better protection, reducing the defensive setbacks that troubled them last term.

Offensively, United could have put the game to bed much earlier, with Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount both missing golden opportunities to extend the lead.

However, the overall play was positive, and the team's command to grind out a result in a tight game is proof of their improvements under Ten Hag.

What next for Manchester United?

After the narrow win over Fulham, Manchester United's focus now shifts to their upcoming fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Seagulls have started the season impressively under new manager Fabian Hurzeler, showcasing a dynamic attacking style in their 2-0 victory over Everton.

The trip to the American Express Community Stadium on 24th August (5.00 PM IST) will be a significant test for Ten Hag's side. Brighton's high-flying start and their potent attacking threat will require United to be at their best, both defensively and offensively.

It will also be interesting to see how Ten Hag and his assistant Ruud Van Nistelrooy approach this challenge, particularly in terms of tactics and team selection.
