Bengaluru, December 10: Manchester United have invited Canadian teen sensation Alphonso Davies for a trial at the club.
The Red Devils want the Canadian prodigy to train with them after his stunning impact in MLS and international football.
The 17-year-old made his debut for Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS at the age of 15 and is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in North America.
And, the youngster has already made his mark on the international stage with a series of impressive displays for the Canada senior team in last summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
He has scored three goals in six games for his country, finishing the tournament as joint-leading scorer and being named in the competition’s best XI.
And now United want to see at close quarters just how good the teenager can be after extending the formal invite for him to train with them at Carrington.
The trial still needs approval from the Whitecaps, who have long been prepared for interest from European clubs for their prospect.
Davies was born in a refugee camp in Ghana after his parents fled the civil war in Liberia, and he emigrated to Canada as a child.
He only received a full Canadian citizenship in June, and just days later was making his full debut for the national team.
Now United want to steal a march on their rivals by trying to get him into their system as they continue to overhaul their production line at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are looking to revamp their youth academy as Chelsea and their local rivals Manchester City boast a much stronger academy right now.
Liverpool also have done well of late in terms of producing quality young players and it is said that the Red Devils want to compete with their rivals for the best young players.
