Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney destroys Viral ‘Haircut Guy’ After West Ham draw
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has sparked fresh debate after taking aim viral fan known as The United Strand after United's 1-1 draw with West Ham saw their hopes of five straight Premier League wins end and the internet hasn't stopped talking about it.
Despite a dramatic late equaliser from Benjamin Sesko, United couldn't land the decisive blow against the Hammers at the London Stadium, meaning The United Strand's hair-growth challenge remains unresolved a little while longer - much to Rooney's annoyance.

Rooney: "He's Doing My Head In" - Pundit Rips into Viral Challenge
United's late-night draw continued their unbeaten run, but it wasn't enough for the streak that Frank Ilett a.k.a The United Strand had been building since October 2024 when he vowed never to cut his hair until United won five Premier League matches in a row.
With nearly 500 days of hair growth and hundreds of thousands of live viewers on his watch-along streams, the fan's stunt became a viral sensation. But all that drama hasn't impressed United's legendary record goalscorer.
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast ahead of United's West Ham clash, Rooney was asked if he'd give the fan his long-awaited trim. His reaction was anything but subtle.
"I'd put him to the other side of the country. He's doing my head in," Rooney said, dismissing the spectacle and questioning its impact on the focus around Manchester United's form.
"We're talking about Michael Carrick and Man United trying to win their fifth game in a row, and the whole thing is about to get this guy his hair cut. I bet he'd be devastated if Man United win the fifth game, because all of a sudden, he's irrelevant." the United legend added.
Rooney's take wasn't just criticism, it was a smackdown delivered with classic bluntness.
500 Days Without a Haircut to Internet Fame
The story of The United Strand is as bizarre as it is entertaining. Frank Ilett began his challenge during a rough patch for United, which saw managerial changes and underwhelming form, and quickly hit global headlines as he neared match after match without scissors in sight. At its peak, his livestream of the West Ham game drew over 300,000 viewers, showcasing just how much traction the stunt has gained.
United interim boss Michael Carrick even faced questions about the tactic in his pre-match press conference, admitting his children had mentioned it - though he insisted it wouldn't form part of his team talk.
Haircut Dilemma on Hold for Now
With the draw, Ilett's dream of ending his viral challenge with a haircut - and even donating it to charity - remains unfulfilled. For now, the hair stays. And so does the debate.
