Christian Eriksen: Manchester United Were Fortunate Not To Be Relegated This Season

Christian Eriksen stated that Manchester United were fortunate to avoid relegation in a disappointing season, finishing 15th with just 42 points. He praised the fans for their unwavering support despite the team's struggles.

Christian Eriksen has expressed that Manchester United narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier League this season. The club, which has won the league 13 times, ended in 15th place with only 42 points. This was their worst finish and lowest points total in the competition's history. Despite reaching the Europa League final, their disappointing season concluded with a loss to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.

United managed to end on a positive note by defeating Aston Villa 2-0 at Old Trafford. Eriksen scored a penalty in his final game for the club. However, he emphasised how close they came to being involved in a relegation battle. "People are lucky that we are where we are, not relegated with the team, with the season we've had," Eriksen stated.

The Danish player also highlighted the unexpected support from fans throughout the challenging season. He remarked, "There's been so many games this season where they could have caused a lot of chaos, where they would have been disappointed with our football. But the fans, to our surprise, have really supported us."

Ruben Amorim took over as manager from Erik ten Hag in November but only secured seven league wins. Since Amorim's arrival, only four teams—Spurs (six), Leicester City (four), Ipswich Town (three), and Southampton (one)—have won fewer matches than United.

Despite these struggles, Eriksen remains optimistic about Amorim's leadership. He believes Amorim is capable of guiding United to better results next season. "Next season it has to be better and I'm sure it will be," he said.

Looking Ahead for Manchester United

Eriksen acknowledged that while progress is evident under Amorim, results have not yet reflected this improvement. "The results haven't really shown that—100% the results haven't shown that," he noted. He believes adapting to Amorim's style will take time but is confident in the players' abilities.

The midfielder stressed that individual talent within the squad should prevent them from being near the bottom of the table again. He expressed confidence that they will transform into a stronger team next season.
