Manchester United Acknowledges Need To Improve Goal Threat After Fulham Victory
Ruben Amorim acknowledged that Manchester United need to enhance their attacking prowess after narrowly defeating Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage. The match saw the Red Devils manage only one shot on target, which was a fortunate goal by Lisandro Martinez, deflected by Sasa Lukic past Bernd Leno. This marked United's longest wait for an attempt on goal this season, matching a previous game against Arsenal.
Despite the lacklustre performance, Manchester United remain unbeaten in all competitions when leading 1-0, joining Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle United in this feat. Amorim expressed satisfaction with securing three points but admitted improvements are necessary in the attacking department. "I think so (that improvement is needed in attack), even in the second half when we wanted to change some things we lacked some pace and power up front," he told TNT Sports.

Amorim emphasised the importance of ball possession to create opportunities and advance into the final third. He noted that while they struggled with these aspects, winning helps foster improvement. "It's really important to have this feeling away from home," he said, acknowledging the support from travelling fans despite a less-than-stellar performance.
Fulham outperformed United in shots and expected goals (xG), with nine shots compared to United's four and an xG of 0.67 against 0.25. Defender Calvin Bassey felt Fulham controlled the game well but lacked luck and clear chances to capitalise on their efforts. "I thought we deserved more," Bassey remarked, reflecting on missed opportunities.
Bassey acknowledged Fulham's awareness of United's quality but lamented their inability to create significant threats. He believed that with a bit more fortune, the outcome could have been different for his team.
Transfer Window Considerations
With the transfer window closing soon, Amorim highlighted the need for cautious spending to adhere to Profit and Sustainability Rules and avoid past costly mistakes. "We have to be cautious, even with the rules here we know that we have to follow the rules," he added, stressing focus on team improvement without repeating previous errors.
The win against Fulham was crucial for Manchester United as they aim to maintain momentum in upcoming matches. Despite challenges in attack, securing victories remains vital for their progress this season.
