Manchester United to offer Jose Mourinho a new contract

London, Sep 9: Manchester United are expected to offer Jose Mourinho a brand new contract in November later this year as per reports in England.

'The Special One’ penned a three-year deal last summer and will be half way through it in two months.

Any new agreement will depend on the team’s performance this season and although the end of May will be the telling point, negotiations about the future are expected to start before Christmas to enable a smooth process in discussing fresh terms with the Portuguese maestro.

No manager at Old Trafford has lasted over two years since the departure of legendary Sir Alex Ferguson but with Mourinho, the record could come to an end finally.

David Moyes was axed just ten months into taking the reign at the Theatre of Dreams while Louis Van Gaal was shown the exit door after two years of his tenure.

A deal would hinge on how successful United are this season with the team going for silverware on all fronts this season.

The Red Devils have made a perfect start to the season with three wins in three games scoring ten goals in the process without conceding a single one. Mourinho has an habit of winning the league title in his second season in charge and will be looking to keep the record intact.

Mourinho has the option for an extra year on his current deal but recently said he seems to be in no rush to get a new contract as he does not consider it as a motivation.

He said: “I don’t need a new contract to work to my limits.

“I don’t have a problem to arrive at the end of my contract and be free to decide what I want to do and the club free to decide what they want to do.

“In the past, I always wanted to coach in different places. When I came to Chelsea in 2004 I never thought to stay for 20 years. Never.

“When I went to Italy I always had in mind I had to go to Spain.

“If in this moment now you ask me can I go to France or to Germany, I say, 'Why not? Why not?’.

“But I’m in a different moment in my career now.

“I always had Spain and Italy [as places where he hoped to manage], but England is my passion and at this moment I can say I would like to stay many years.”
