Ruben Amorim has expressed that he and his Manchester United squad must work to change Sir Jim Ratcliffe's view of the team. Ratcliffe, who took over football operations at Old Trafford a year ago, has been disappointed with the lack of positive outcomes from his investment. In a recent BBC Sport interview, Ratcliffe criticised some players for being overpaid and underperforming, though he did not specify names.
During the interview, Ratcliffe mentioned Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Antony, and Jadon Sancho as transfers that have yet to yield results for Ineos. Following a 1-1 draw with Arsenal last Sunday, United sits 14th in the Premier League table, potentially facing their lowest finish in the top-flight. Despite this, Amorim remains unfazed by Ratcliffe's public remarks.

Amorim acknowledged the team's struggles this season. "I think if we are being honest in this moment, everybody - me, the players - are underperforming this season. I include myself in the underperforming," he stated. He highlighted players like Casemiro who have previously achieved great success but are currently not meeting expectations.
Manchester United's hopes for silverware rest on their Europa League campaign. They face Real Sociedad at Old Trafford on Thursday after a 1-1 draw in the first leg. The Red Devils have only lost once at home in their last 28 Europa League matches against Sociedad back in September 2022.
In knockout stages of the competition, United remains unbeaten in 15 games since losing to Marcelo Bielsa's Athletic Bilbao in March 2012. However, Amorim will be without Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire for this match. Midfielder Manuel Ugarte is available again after returning to the squad.
Mason Mount resumed training on Wednesday but is still recovering from a thigh injury sustained on December 15. "It is too soon for Mason Mount," Amorim noted. He hopes to have Maguire back for Sunday's game while Ugarte is ready to play against Sociedad.
United aims to improve their performance and change perceptions both internally and externally as they continue their Europa League journey. The focus remains on achieving better results and proving critics wrong through hard work and determination on the field.
