Manchester United ready to sell goalkeeper at right price

Bengaluru, March 8: Manchester United have slapped a £6.5m price tag on their goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as they prepare to free up funds for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The English goalkeeper has been in sensational form since going on a season-long loan to Championship side Aston Villa.

The Red Devils last week took up their 12-month contract extension option on the 24-year-old.

But he has yet to hear about Jose Mourinho’s plans for next season, and Manchester United are willing to sell for the right price.

He earns around £25,000-a-week, but is behind David De Gea and Sergio Romero in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Johnstone wants to stay at Villa permanently as they chase promotion back to the Premier League.

The Villans are third on the table and are looking quite certain to finish in the playoff spots.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce plans to speak with Mourinho in the next few weeks, as he starts his summer transfer plans.

Johnstone said: “I want to keep playing football. I'm enjoying the number of games I'm playing.

“The Premier League is where you want to be week in, week out. I'd love it for this club to be a part of that next season.”

David De Gea has been a long-term target of La Liga giants Real Madrid and there are reports that the Los Blancos could come back in his hunt once again in the summer while Sergio Romero looks happy to play second fiddle to the Spaniard.

Johnstone is young and it is unlikely that he will become the first-choice of the Red Devils anytime soon and a move away to Aston Villa where he has already impressed, coul prove to be a brilliant move for the Englishman.
