Manchester United's recent defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final has left the team at a low point, according to Luke Shaw. Despite being unbeaten in European competitions until now, Brennan Johnson's goal secured a 1-0 victory for Spurs. This loss means United will not participate in European competitions next season, having missed out on Champions League qualification.
Shaw expressed his disappointment, stating, "We're all gutted, it's not how we saw the outcome to be honest." He acknowledged that the entire season has been subpar and questioned whether the team is good enough to represent Manchester United. Shaw emphasised that for a club of their stature, such performances are unacceptable.

United's current standing in the Premier League is 16th, with their highest possible finish being 14th. This season marks their 20th defeat across all competitions, the most since their relegation in 1973-74. Shaw believes this is rock bottom for the team and insists they must find a way to improve and return to their rightful place.
Diogo Dalot echoed Shaw's sentiments about the disappointing season. He stressed the importance of self-reflection and improvement among players. Dalot stated, "The last thing we need right now is to create separation with us and the fans." He urged fans to continue supporting them as they work towards better performances.
Shaw also voiced his support for head coach Ruben Amorim, whom he believes can lead Manchester United back to success. "I can say 100% right now he's the right man," Shaw said. He acknowledged that results have been poor but trusts Amorim's ability to guide the team back to where they belong.
The team's struggles extend beyond just this season's results. They have failed to win four of their last five major European finals after initially winning four between 1968 and 2008. Shaw remains optimistic about future improvements under Amorim's leadership.
Dalot highlighted the need for higher standards and daily improvements among players. He mentioned that both players and management would analyse what needs changing during their break. Dalot added that expectations are always high at Manchester United, and they must take responsibility for falling short this season.
The team acknowledges that significant changes are necessary to meet these expectations and satisfy their loyal fan base. Both Shaw and Dalot are committed to working hard during the off-season to ensure a better performance in future campaigns.
