Manchester United secured their spot in the Europa League last 16 with a 2-0 victory over FCSB. Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo were the scorers, sealing the win after a lacklustre first half at Arena Nationala. Dalot scored from Mainoo's precise low cross, and Mainoo later netted from Alejandro Garnacho's assist. United hit the woodwork twice, while FCSB also struck the crossbar.

United's performance improved significantly after halftime. Garnacho, introduced as a substitute, nearly scored immediately but hit the post when facing Stefan Tarnovanu one-on-one. Bruno Fernandes then rattled the crossbar with a powerful shot from 35 yards before United finally broke through. Amad Diallo's quick throw-in led to Mainoo setting up Dalot for an easy finish.

Mainoo was instrumental throughout the match, contributing both a goal and an assist on his major European debut. He became the first United player since Wayne Rooney in September 2004 to achieve this feat in a European game. This victory marked United's fifth consecutive win in the Europa League, replicating their streak from late 2022.

FCSB managed to secure an 11th-place play-off spot despite failing to score in four of their league-phase matches. Only Ludogorets and Dynamo Kyiv have had more scoreless games this season, each failing to find the net five times.

Mihai Popescu missed a crucial chance early on, guiding his shot wide from Risto Radunovic's free-kick. Mainoo also missed an opportunity after Rasmus Hojlund's good work set him up, blasting over from close range during an otherwise uneventful first half.

Daniel Birligea nearly surprised United with a long-range strike that hit the underside of the bar. Florin Tanase headed wide on the rebound but was offside regardless. United took control when Garnacho delivered a low cross that Mainoo converted into the bottom-right corner from 12 yards out.

With this win, Manchester United finished third in their league-phase standings and advanced directly to the last-16 stage. The team maintained composure to see out the match comfortably after taking control with Mainoo's decisive goal.
