Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United should prioritise signing Victor Osimhen over Viktor Gyokeres. The former defender suggests Ruben Amorim consider the Galatasaray forward to address United's attacking issues. Although Amorim has a connection with Gyokeres from their time at Sporting CP, Ferdinand feels Osimhen's experience makes him a better choice.
Gyokeres had an impressive season, netting 39 goals in 33 league matches for Sporting. In contrast, Osimhen scored 26 times in 30 games for Galatasaray. Gyokeres also boasted a higher shot conversion rate of 28% compared to Osimhen's 18.8%, indicating his efficiency in front of goal.

In terms of converting big chances, Gyokeres excelled with a 57.4% success rate, surpassing Osimhen's 46.9%. These statistics highlight Gyokeres as a more lethal option when opportunities arise. However, Ferdinand still leans towards Osimhen due to his international and multi-league experience.
Rasmus Hojlund struggled last season, scoring only four goals in 32 Premier League appearances. His shot conversion rate was just 12.5%, and he missed six out of nine big chances, achieving only a 33% conversion rate in that aspect.
"[Man United need] a centre-forward with experience. That's it," Ferdinand stated. He emphasised the importance of having a reliable number nine who can be depended upon in crucial moments, something Hojlund has yet to provide due to his lack of experience.
Ferdinand argues that Manchester United requires an experienced striker who can guide younger players like Hojlund and Zirkzee. "A striker with experience knows his right way around the football field," he said, highlighting the need for someone young talents can learn from.
"I think Gyokeres, everyone's talking about him," Ferdinand told Mirror Sport. "Again, I think if I'm looking at the market now and I had to pick him or Osimhen, I'd probably pick Osimhen because of that experience."
Ferdinand acknowledges Gyokeres' potential but stresses the importance of proven talent: "I'm not saying that Gyokeres would fail. I'm just saying that if I had a preference, I would go there." This reflects his belief in Osimhen's ability to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.
Manchester United faces challenges in finding the right striker to lead their attack effectively. While both Gyokeres and Osimhen have their strengths, Ferdinand's preference for experience highlights the need for stability and guidance within the team.
