Amad Diallo's late hat-trick propelled Manchester United to a 3-1 victory over Southampton, overturning a deficit and avoiding a fourth consecutive home defeat in the Premier League. Manuel Ugarte had initially put Southampton ahead just before half-time, flicking Tyler Dibling's pass past Andre Onana. However, Diallo sparked United's comeback with a goal eight minutes from time.

Diallo's performance was historic as he became the third player in Premier League history to score three times in the final 10 minutes of a match. This feat places him alongside Manchester United legends Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Wayne Rooney. Solskjaer achieved this against Nottingham Forest in 1999, while Rooney did so against Hull City in 2010.

The winger continued his heroics by volleying Christian Eriksen's pass into the net in the 90th minute, giving United the lead. He then capitalised on Taylor Harwood-Bellis' mistake to secure his hat-trick with a simple finish into an empty net four minutes later. These goals not only secured victory but also lifted United to 12th place in the league standings.

Southampton remains at the bottom of the table, having managed only one win throughout the 2024-25 season. They are now 10 points away from safety, highlighting their ongoing struggles. Despite taking an early lead through Ugarte's own goal, they couldn't hold off Diallo's late surge.

This victory was crucial for manager Ruben Amorim, who avoided an embarrassing loss to the league's bottom team. Diallo's performance also overshadowed Antony’s missed opportunity from Alejandro Garnacho’s cross earlier in the game.

United has struggled at home this season, trailing at half-time in six matches—only Leicester City has more with seven such instances. Ugarte’s own goal marked a rare occurrence for United at Old Trafford since Raphael Varane scored against Leeds United in February 2023.
