Manchester United star almost certain to leave the club in January or next summer

Manchester United's Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen could be nearing the end of his tenure at Old Trafford. Reports suggest that manager Ruben Amorim is set to oversee a squad reshuffle next summer, with Eriksen expected to leave the club when his contract expires in June 2025.

However, his influence reduced in his second season. Eriksen started just 14 games in all competitions, with manager Erik ten Hag citing the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo as a factor in the Dane's reduced playing time. Rumors swirled about a potential departure during the summer of 2023, but Eriksen ultimately stayed put.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Eriksen has staged an unexpected comeback this season. Now 32, he has started nine games and has been a standout performer contributing four goals and three assists. These numbers have made him United's joint second-top scorer so far this term.

The revival led to speculation that Manchester United might extend his contract, but Amorim's emphasis on high-intensity football has cast doubts over Eriksen's long-term role in the team.

With younger and more dynamic midfield options available, it appears the club is leaning toward allowing him to leave on a free transfer next summer.

If Eriksen departs, there's no shortage of interest in the experienced playmaker. His former club Ajax has been linked with a move to bring him back on a free deal.

Another interesting report has emerged from Fenerbahce, with former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho keen to reunite with Eriksen in Turkey. Mourinho, now in charge of Fenerbahce, has reportedly pushed for a January transfer at a reduced fee, though no formal negotiations have taken place.

As the season progresses, Eriksen's performances could influence Amorim's final decision. But for now, it appears increasingly likely that Eriksen will bid farewell to Manchester United at the end of the current campaign.
