Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund ignores Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo to name English legend as his dream partner

In a surprising revelation, Rasmus Hojlund, the 21-year-old Manchester United sensation, has chosen Wayne Rooney over Cristiano Ronaldo as his dream strike partner for the iconic club.

Despite idolising Ronaldo and modelling aspects of his game after the Portuguese superstar, Hojlund has claimed that he and Rooney would have been a better duo on the pitch.

Rasmus Hojlund ignores Cristiano Ronaldo to name his partner

A lifelong United fan, Hojlund's admiration for Rooney stems from the Englishman's legendary status at Old Trafford, where he scored a remarkable 253 goals in 559 appearances over 13 years. While Cristiano Ronaldo's impact and achievements at the club are unquestionable, Hojlund sees Rooney as the ideal complement to his style of play.

Since his £72 million arrival from Atalanta, Hojlund has shouldered the responsibility of leading United's attack, notching an impressive 13 goals in his debut campaign. Much like Rooney did when he joined Everton in 2004, Hojlund has faced the weight of expectation from fans and pundits alike.

Rooney's versatility, work rate, and innate goal-scoring ability have left a lasting impression on Hojlund, who envisions a partnership that combines their respective strengths to unlock opposition defences.

Hojlund told Sky Sports: "I think I would take Wayne to be fair because he's like a bulldog. He likes to work and he would do a massive job for me. "He's selfish but he wants to make you better and he wants to score goals as well. I think we could have a nice partnership together, especially with his size as well. He could drop deep and I could maybe make the deeper runs as well.

"You never know, I've not played with him but I hope we will score many."

Despite opting for Rooney over Ronaldo, Hojlund, however, also acknowledged the influence Ronaldo has had on his game, highlighting the Portuguese forward's relentless drive for success and unparalleled work ethic.

"There were a lot of players," he added. "I used to look at (Robert) Lewandowski a lot, Cristiano of course is my idol so I watched him a lot."
