Manchester United target Ivan Perisic signs new five-year deal at Inter Milan

London, Sep 9: Manchester United target Ivan Perisic has officially signed a 5-year contract extension with Inter Milan amid speculation over his stay at the club.

The Croatian winger who joined Inter in 2015 from Wolfsburg already had a contract with the Blue half of Milan till 2020 however with this new contract he became one of the clubs highest earners and assured his stay at the club until 2022.

Perisic's arrival at Old Trafford looked certain at one point of time during the transfer window as United boss was adamant to add a winger to his ranks.

United had also made numerous offers for the player, however, Inter denied to meet Inter's soliciting cost from £49 million.

Inter requesting around £45m for the winger plus a loan deal for Anthony Martial looks more to be extravagant and, finally, after months of talks, United backed out of the deal which eventually led Perisic to sign a new contract to put an end to all the speculations.

After signing the deal, the 28-year-old admitted that he was provoked to stay with his current club after the appointment of new boss Luciano Spalletti and a talk with his compatriot Samir Handanovic made him believe that he could improve under him, that's why he decided to stay at San Siro and signed a new contract.

Perisic told Inter's official website: "It's a special day for me, an emotional and happy one after the stress of the summer. Now we are all looking forward and I'm only thinking about Inter.

"For a long time I kept my counsel, and now I can say that [head coach Luciano] Spalletti told me that I could be an even better version of myself here.

"We've done well in the first two matches of the season and we need to continue that way."'It’s a special day, it’s certainly emotional and I’m happy after the stress of this summer,’ the winger told the club’s official site.

"Now, we can look forward and I’m only thinking about Inter. After signing, the pitch is the only thing left for me to think about.

"For a long time I didn’t give quotes, I can now say that I had already spoken with Spalletti in pre-season and he told me that I can be an even better player with him.

"Handanovic also spoke to me about Spalletti from their time at Udinese and he only had good things to say about him.

"We did well in our first two matches and now we have to continue in the same way. There are always a lot of fans who turn up and it’s better for us like that. It will be easier with their support."
