Ten Hag Confident Manchester United Will Achieve Success Despite Tough Start To Season

Despite a difficult beginning to the 2024-25 season, Erik ten Hag remains confident that Manchester United will find success. The team aims to address current challenges and improve their performance in upcoming matches.

Erik ten Hag remains optimistic about Manchester United's prospects for the 2024-25 season, despite a challenging start. The team currently sits 12th in the Premier League, having secured only seven points. This matches their lowest tally after six games in a season, seen previously in 2013-14 and 2020-21. A recent 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford has intensified scrutiny on Ten Hag.

Manchester United's defence struggled against Tottenham, conceding early in both halves. This marked only the second time they allowed goals so quickly in a Premier League match. Tottenham also recorded an xG of 4.59, one of the highest against United since 2009. They created nine significant chances, a feat surpassed only five times in league history.

Ten Hag Optimistic About Manchester United's Season

The Red Devils' defensive metrics are concerning, with an xG against of 11.04, ranking just above Brentford and the newly promoted teams. Despite these challenges, Ten Hag remains confident that improvements are on the horizon. "We are going to make a success of the season," he told Sky Sports. He believes the team can resolve their issues without panic.

Ten Hag is not worried about speculation regarding his future at Old Trafford. He has concluded both previous seasons with trophies and maintains focus on achieving similar success this year. "I'm not thinking about it, I'm not anxious," he stated, emphasizing unity within the club's leadership and ownership.

The Dutch manager highlighted a collective agreement made during the summer to focus on integrating young players during this transitional phase. He noted that his past six seasons have ended with silverware, reinforcing his confidence in their strategy and long-term goals.

Looking ahead, Manchester United faces Porto in the Europa League before returning to Premier League action against Aston Villa three days later. Ten Hag is focused on these upcoming challenges as opportunities to steer the team back on track.
