Manchester United eye former Chelsea striker, may sell World Cup-winning defender in January

Manchester United are reportedly in line to bring Timo Werner back in the Premier League.

The Red Devils are reportedly strategizing to reinforce their squad in the upcoming transfer window. And Werner is being touted as a possible reinforcement that Erik Ten Hag desires in January.

Timo Werner

Manchester United signed Rasmus Hojlund in the summer. Although the striker has done pretty well so far, they would love to add a bit more firepower up front. Timo Werner, the former Chelsea striker, is being touted as United look to bolster their attacking options.

The Germany International spent two seasons in London with Chelsea and scored 23 goals in 89 appearances. He is back at RB Leipzig, but has struggled to find his form. The 27-year-old has played 8 Bundesliga matches this season, netting only twice so far.

According to The Guardian, their focus is on amplifying their strength in four distinct positions, one of which includes the role of a defensive midfielder. But there can be departures as well.

Among the myriad of players who could potentially be on their way out is Raphael Varane. The 30-year-old French defender, a significant figure in the current team, might be one of those making way for the new recruits. Varane joined the Red Devils in 2021 and has played 75 times across all competitions.

The coveted French defender was a regular but has found himself on the bench with the resurgence of Harry Maguire. With their intent on strengthening their squad further and the possible departure of significant figures like Raphael Varane, the club's trajectory in the upcoming months remains interesting.

Whether Timo Werner ends up at Old Trafford or rekindles his tenure at RB Leipzig is yet another subplot that adds to the anticipation of the forthcoming transfer window.
