Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, sees similarities between his situation and that of Tottenham's Ange Postecoglou as they prepare for their Premier League match this weekend. United will visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, aiming to build on their FA Cup win over Leicester City and recover from a recent 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the league.
Despite expectations earlier in the season, this fixture is not the 'Super Sunday' clash many anticipated. Both teams find themselves in the lower half of the table. The Red Devils are currently in 13th place, just one spot and two points ahead of Tottenham. Many consider this match crucial for both Postecoglou and Amorim.

Both managers have faced criticism as they try to implement their styles without much success. Amorim believes he shares similar challenges with Postecoglou but remains confident in his tactics. "I'm a huge fan of Ange Postecoglou," Amorim stated. "I'm from a different culture, I'm Portuguese and all the Portuguese coaches can adapt. I adapt."
Amorim explained his approach further: "The simple thing is that I use one system at the moment because I believe if you work on that system you can play in different systems at the same time. That is my idea." He acknowledged their shared struggles, saying, "We are not winning games and I understand the connection between me and Ange, we have the same problems."
The defensive issues plaguing both teams have contributed to their disappointing seasons. Tottenham has recorded the fifth-worst expected goals against (xGA) total in the league at 41.28, while United is close behind with an xGA of 37.22.
United's offensive struggles compound their problems; they have failed to score in nine out of 24 matches this season. Additionally, they haven't scored in the first half of 18 Premier League games, more than any other team.
The January transfer window saw Marcus Rashford and Antony leave on loan, reducing Amorim's attacking options. Patrick Dorgu was brought in as a defender but was the only addition during this period.
Amorim admitted that changes are needed but must wait until summer: "Here it's simple. To do something, we need to sell players." He added, "My focus is to prepare for the game. We cannot do it now; the window is closed."
Amorim emphasised focusing on current matches before planning future transfers: "We need to focus on the games we have and then in the summer we'll see." This approach highlights his commitment to improving results despite current limitations.
