FA Cup Fifth Round Draw: Mansfield To Host Arsenal As City Meet Newcastle

Mansfield Town secure a home FA Cup fifth-round tie against Arsenal after beating Burnley, while Newcastle United face Manchester City in a high-profile clash. The draw also pairs Liverpool with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wrexham against Chelsea, with further ties including Leeds United versus Norwich City, and Port Vale or Bristol City hosting Sunderland.

Mansfield Town’s comeback win at Burnley has set up a home clash with Arsenal, after the League One side secured a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor to reach the FA Cup fifth round and earn a lucrative meeting with the current Premier League leaders at Field Mill.

The decisive moment in that fourth-round tie arrived on 80 minutes, when Louis Reed’s superb free-kick completed the turnaround and confirmed Mansfield’s progress, putting Nigel Clough on course to manage against Arsenal for the first time in the FA Cup.

The FA Cup fifth round draw also paired Newcastle United with Manchester City at St. James’ Park, renewing a rivalry last seen in their recent two-legged EFL Cup semi-final, while Chelsea face a tricky away assignment against Hollywood-backed Wrexham, who continue their run as lower-league hosts.

Liverpool were drawn away as well and will travel to Molineux to take on struggling Premier League side Wolves, while Leeds United welcome Philippe Clement’s Norwich City to Elland Road, in a contest that pitches one of the Championship’s big names against an in-form visiting team chasing progress.

Another tie will see Fulham host Southampton, and Port Vale or Bristol City, whose fourth-round match was postponed, will meet Sunderland on home turf, while non-league Macclesfield remain in contention for a third successive top-flight opponent, with either Macclesfield or Brentford set to visit West Ham over the weekend of 7-8 March.

The meeting with Arsenal also carries personal history for Nigel Clough, whose father Brian Clough took charge of his final FA Cup match against the Gunners in February 1993, a game Nigel Clough played in for Nottingham Forest, adding an extra narrative layer to Mansfield’s home tie in the competition.

With ties scheduled for 7-8 March, the FA Cup fifth round offers several high-profile matchups, from Mansfield Town hosting Arsenal to Newcastle United facing Manchester City, while Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham also feature in away fixtures that ensure strong interest from across English football and among fans in the wider region.
