Manuel Neuer continues recovery from foot injury in Thailand

Bangkok, Feb 16: Germany and Bayern star keeper Manuel Neuer is stepping up his recovery to be back in action before the end of the Bundesliga season with a rehabilitation program in Thailand.

The German goalkeeper suffered the major blow when he was ruled out of action until January after sustaining a foot injury for the second time in six months.

He had an operation to repair a hairline metatarsal fracture in his left-foot in September and was expected to be back in the field in January.

However, the recovery has not gone through the same way the player had expected and till now the German shot-stopper is yet to join any training regime.

But now in the latest interview, the player now has revealed that he is targetting the month of March for his return date and is at the end of his recovery programme. For healing his injury in a more faster way, the player flew out to Thailand for special rehab.

"I know things are coming along very well, but of course there's still time until I'll be at full strength," he told FC Bayern TV. "I can't say right now exactly how long that's going to be. I'm currently at around 80 percent my body weight at five km/h on the treadmill and that's going up all the time.

"I expect to be walking at up to 90 percent without any problems next week, and then be up to 100 per cent the week after, then I'll slowly start running. My walking profile is pretty good, and I'm not feeling any pain."

In his absence, Ulreich currently has been playing as the first choice and has been impressive so far.

And the German number one also heaped praise on his deputy and claimed his fellow countryman's outstanding performance can also give him an opportunity to be in next year's World Cup squad.

"He's a great goalkeeper and he's been able to prove that now. He's doing a great job here for Bayern and the team," Neuer said.

And talking about his inclusion in the German World Cup squad he added: "It can't be ruled out, and I think it would be great."

Ulreich signed a new contract on Sunday with the German champions until 2021.
