Bayern Munich's goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, sustained a calf muscle tear while celebrating a goal during their 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. This incident occurred in the Champions League match on Wednesday. Neuer was substituted in the 58th minute after Jamal Musiala scored the second goal. Bayern confirmed his injury on Thursday, but did not specify when he might return to play.

The injury happened as Neuer celebrated a goal, according to Vincent Kompany. Bayern Munich announced that Neuer will be out of action for an unspecified period. Sky Sports Germany reported that the 38-year-old goalkeeper is expected to miss four upcoming matches, including the second leg against Leverkusen next week.

The club's medical team confirmed the diagnosis of Neuer's torn muscle fibre in his right calf. As a result, he will be unavailable for an indefinite period. Despite this setback, Neuer has been impressive this season with 11 clean sheets in the Bundesliga, sharing this record with Peter Gulacsi. He has conceded only 15 goals and faced the fewest shots among goalkeepers who have played more than ten games.

Earlier this season, Neuer missed games due to a rib injury sustained during a DFB-Pokal loss to Leverkusen on December 3. His career has been marred by injuries recently; notably, he was sidelined for ten months after breaking his leg during a skiing holiday in December 2022.
