Manuel Ugarte is eager to embrace the significant responsibility of playing for Manchester United. The Uruguayan midfielder, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.5 million last week, was introduced to fans before their 3-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday. Ugarte is Erik ten Hag's fifth and final signing of the transfer window and is expected to join United's midfield after the international break.
Ugarte's impressive stats from Ligue 1 last season highlight his potential impact at United. He won 57 out of 98 tackles, more than any other PSG player, and completed 1212 of his 1325 passes. This makes him a more mobile option in midfield compared to Casemiro. Additionally, Ugarte played a key role in Marcelo Bielsa's Uruguay team that finished third at the Copa America, starting all six games.

The 23-year-old revealed that his international teammate, Facundo Pellistri, who recently moved to Panathinaikos, significantly influenced his decision to join United. "First and foremost, it's history because we all know what a massive club United is - one of the best teams in the world," said Ugarte. "I also spoke a lot with Facu Pellistri, and he told me all about everything."
Ugarte expressed his excitement about experiencing Old Trafford as a player. "The atmosphere that's generated, the matchday atmosphere at Old Trafford is incredible," he added. "So yes, I'm really excited. I'd love to experience United's legendary stadium as a player and feel the presence of the supporters."
Ugarte also sought advice from Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez, two key figures in the current United squad. "I've watched a few games since the news started to come out," Ugarte said. "I've also spoken with one or two players - Bruno and Licha - and I have chatted quite a lot." He emphasized his eagerness and readiness for the challenge ahead.
Despite Sunday's disappointing result against Liverpool, Ugarte got his first taste of the famous Old Trafford atmosphere. During his time with PSG and Sporting CP, he has played away at Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
"I'm really excited," Ugarte said about joining United. "I've never seen anything like it before, these United fans because since the news first came out, they've been sending me messages."
The midfielder's enthusiasm is palpable as he prepares for this new chapter in his career. His previous experiences playing against top English clubs will undoubtedly aid his transition into Premier League football.
