Sunderland have acquired Marc Guiu on loan from Chelsea for the 2025-26 Premier League season. The 19-year-old striker joins Regis Le Bris' team as they aim to avoid relegation following their Championship play-off victory last season. Guiu's addition strengthens an already reinforced attack, which includes Simon Adingra, Chemsdine Talbi, and Enzo Le Fee, whose loan from Roma is now permanent.
Guiu had a notable impact in Chelsea's UEFA Conference League triumph last season, scoring all six of his goals in that competition. Despite making 16 senior appearances under Enzo Maresca, he only started seven matches across all competitions. This loan move offers him a chance to prove himself in the Premier League.

"I'm feeling great and really looking forward to the season ahead," Guiu expressed in Sunderland's official announcement. "I see myself as a powerful striker who can make a difference on and off the ball, and I pride myself on being a natural goalscorer." He views this year as a significant opportunity to elevate the team to its rightful place.
The young Spaniard's arrival follows Sunderland's busy transfer window, which also saw the signings of Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo, Granit Xhaka, and Robin Roefs. Additionally, head coach Le Bris has committed to a new long-term contract with the club.
Sunderland's sporting director Kristjaan Speakman highlighted the importance of convincing both Guiu and Chelsea for this loan deal. "In a loan acquisition, we not only have to convince the player but also the parent club," Speakman stated. He expressed gratitude towards Chelsea for trusting Sunderland with Guiu's development.
Speakman added that there was significant competition for Guiu's signature this summer. "Marc wanted to come to Sunderland and be part of our club," he said. The club is excited about his potential contributions throughout the upcoming season.
Guiu is expected to bring dynamism to Sunderland's attack with his progressive style of play. His ability to threaten in the final third aligns well with the team's strategy. The club anticipates that he will significantly influence games during his time at Sunderland.
