Marcus Rashford would be better without Mourinho - Frank De Boer

London, March 12: Dutch football legend and former Ajax manager Frank De Boer has slammed Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho for handing a very little opportunity to talented Marcus Rashford and claimed the player would have developed better under another manager.

Rashford burst into the scenes in 2015 when Louis van Gaal handed him a debut against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League and the forward repaid the faith by netting on his debut.

After that, the Englishman further had a good season with United and even scored on debut for the Three Lions.

For the last two seasons though, current United manager Jose Mourinho has changed his position in the team and has mostly used him as a winger.

Although the 20-year-old has completed 100 games for United, the player has struggled of late to get into United's Starting XI, with manager Jose Mourinho preferring the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial over him.

Before United's last match where the England youngster disrupted Liverpool scoring twice, he only started a league game last on Boxing Day against Burnley.

The player mostly in recent matches has been restricted to a few appearances off the bench and against Liverpool he also got the opportunity to start the game only because of injury to Martial. Still, in his limited appearances he has 12 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions this season.

And now, as per De Boer who has been without a club after getting the sack from early in the season from Crystal Palace, the Mancunian forward is unfortunate to have Jose Mourinho as his manager because he gives very little chance to youngsters.

"It's a pity that the manager is Mourinho, cause he's an English player and you want him to be given time," the former Crystal Palace and Ajax boss told BT Sport.

De Boer added: "He can make mistakes but Mourinho is not like that and if he has one or two not good games then he puts him out.

"He's very young, he needs games. But he's so talented and you want to see him play every week."

United will be up in action again in midweek when they play Sevilla in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie and after his Man of the match display against Liverpool, Rashford will surely hope to make a starting place for that game.
