Enzo Maresca has expressed admiration for Marc Guehi but dismissed speculation about the England defender's potential return to Chelsea this month. Guehi, a product of Chelsea's academy, made only two senior appearances for the club before moving to Swansea City on loan and later joining Crystal Palace permanently. Despite recent links suggesting a move back to Chelsea, Maresca emphasised that Guehi remains a Palace player.
Chelsea is currently facing challenges in their defensive lineup due to injuries. Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are both sidelined for an extended period. However, Maresca insists that the club will not hastily enter the transfer market despite these setbacks. He stated, "I like Marc for sure, but he is not our player." This indicates Chelsea's cautious approach to potential transfers.

Guehi has been a standout performer for Crystal Palace this season. Among his teammates in defence, he has recorded the most blocks with 16 and shares the second-highest number of interceptions at 19 with Trevoh Chalobah, who is on loan from Chelsea. Additionally, Guehi ranks second in duels won with 102.
Maresca also revealed plans to exclude Ben Chilwell and Cesare Casadei from the FA Cup squad. Chilwell has only featured once under Maresca in the EFL Cup. The Italian manager hinted that Chilwell might be leaving soon, saying it's better not to use him to prevent injury or complications. Similarly, Casadei might be kept out if there's a chance for him to play elsewhere.
Chelsea's recent performances have drawn attention as they have struggled defensively in the Premier League. The team has failed to secure a win in their last four matches against Liverpool (D2 L2), conceding three goals after the 80th minute during this period.
Maresca remains unconcerned about Chelsea conceding late goals recently. He explained that such phases occur throughout a season where teams may score or concede late goals or from set-pieces. He hopes this trend will reverse soon so they can regain confidence by scoring late winners instead.
The situation surrounding Marc Guehi and other players reflects Chelsea's current strategic considerations amid ongoing challenges. With key defenders injured and transfer rumours circulating, Maresca aims to maintain stability within the squad while navigating these issues carefully.
