Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has firmly stated that Christopher Nkunku is not available for transfer. Despite rumours suggesting otherwise, Maresca clarified that Nkunku remains a key part of the team. Although Nkunku has only started once in the Premier League this season, he has made 18 appearances across all competitions. His goal tally includes six in the Europa Conference League and two in the EFL Cup.
Nkunku's limited league appearances are due to tactical balance, according to Maresca. The manager explained that integrating players like Cole Palmer, Joao Felix, Jadon Sancho, and Noni Madueke requires careful consideration of defensive responsibilities. "If you play with Cole [Palmer], Joao [Felix], Christo, Jadon [Sancho] or Noni [Madueke], who is defending?" Maresca questioned.

The manager also highlighted Nkunku's versatility on the field. While his preferred position is as a number 10, he has been playing as a striker for Chelsea. In a recent match against Manchester City, he was positioned as a winger, which is not his strongest role. Maresca acknowledged that Nkunku's best performances were during pre-season when he played in his natural position.
Chelsea will face Heidenheim in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, where Nkunku is expected to start. Following this match, they will play against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday. These games provide opportunities for Nkunku to showcase his skills and contribute to the team's success.
Maresca addressed speculation about Nkunku's satisfaction with his current role at Chelsea. "Not at all," he said regarding any dissatisfaction from Nkunku. "I spoke with Christo days ago; he did not say he is not happy." This statement underscores the player's commitment to the club despite limited league action.
Maresca reiterated that Nkunku is not for sale despite external interest. He emphasised that maintaining team balance is crucial and that each player's role must align with overall strategy. As Chelsea prepares for upcoming fixtures, Nkunku remains an integral part of their plans moving forward.
