Chelsea's recent 3-1 triumph over Wolves marked their first win in six Premier League matches, propelling them back into the top four. Despite a mistake by goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, Chelsea managed to secure victory. Enzo Maresca, Chelsea's head coach, defended Sanchez, highlighting his crucial saves throughout the season.
After Tosin Adarabioyo opened the scoring, Wolves equalised when Sanchez mishandled a corner from Matheus Cunha, allowing Matt Doherty to score. This was Sanchez's fourth error leading to a goal this season, with only Ipswich Town’s Arijanet Muric having more. However, Maresca remains confident in Sanchez's abilities.

Maresca emphasised that mistakes are part of the game and occur across all positions. "You said it was the fourth mistake [leading to a goal]? How many times did he save us? More than four, so no problem," Maresca told Sky Sports. "It happens. Mistakes happen to him, the strikers, the midfielders. He is doing well."
The match saw Chelsea dominate early on, creating numerous chances and scoring three goals. Maresca noted that despite not winning their last five games, their performance had been strong. He praised his team's ability to finally convert opportunities into goals.
For Wolves, this defeat leaves them precariously positioned at 17th in the league standings. They remain outside the relegation zone solely due to goal difference after suffering three consecutive losses.
Vitor Pereira, Wolves' head coach, acknowledged his team's need for tactical improvement. "We faced a strong team with players that, one against one, can create chances," he stated. Pereira pointed out that defending too deeply has been problematic for his squad.
Pereira expressed concerns about conceding goals from set-pieces and highlighted defensive issues in their own third of the pitch. He stressed the importance of enhancing tactical maturity to avoid such vulnerabilities in future matches.
Chelsea's victory over Wolves underscores their potential as they aim to maintain their position among the Premier League's elite teams. Meanwhile, Wolves must address their defensive frailties to improve their standing in upcoming fixtures.
