Enzo Maresca remains unfazed by his team's defensive lapses, despite Chelsea's 2-1 comeback win over West Ham. Levi Colwill's errant backpass allowed Jarrod Bowen to score for West Ham just before the break. Pedro Neto levelled the score, and an Aaron Wan-Bissaka own goal secured Chelsea's victory, pushing them to fourth in the Premier League standings.
Only Southampton and Aston Villa have committed more errors leading to goals this season than Chelsea's ten. This win marked Chelsea's first comeback victory at Stamford Bridge after trailing at half-time since December 2013 against Southampton. The match was their 18th attempt since then, with two draws and fifteen losses.

Maresca praised his team's resilience, especially given West Ham's defensive strategy. "Today was a tough game, especially mentally," Maresca told BBC MOTD. "When West Ham come here and sit back with 10 players behind the ball, it's not easy, so you have to be mentally strong, and you need to be patient." He noted that Chelsea had over ten shots in the first half but failed to convert clear opportunities.
The manager emphasised that errors are part of their playing style and occur naturally in football. "I'm not concerned [about the errors], it's the way we play. Sometimes, defensive mistakes happen. A keeper mistake, number nine misses the goal. That's football. It happens. The important thing is to continue," he stated.
West Ham suffered their third defeat under Graham Potter, who became the ninth former Chelsea manager unable to secure a win against them at Stamford Bridge. Despite this setback, Bowen's return from a foot injury was a positive note for West Ham.
Bowen has been involved in more Premier League goals against Wolves and Newcastle United than any other team except Chelsea. His performance included two goals and two assists against them. Potter expressed satisfaction with Bowen’s leadership on the field.
Potter acknowledged his team's tactical intelligence but felt unlucky regarding Chelsea’s first goal due to a potential foul by Colwill on Bowen earlier in the play. "I thought the performance was really good, lots of good things," Potter told BBC MOTD.
"We felt a little bit unlucky with the first goal; we thought there might have been a foul leading up to it," he added. Despite these challenges, Potter believed they could have earned a point if Mo Kudus' late chance hadn't been blocked.
This weekend proved favourable for Chelsea as Manchester City and Newcastle United both lost their matches. Maresca highlighted this as an added advantage for his team’s position in the league table.
