Mario Lemina has rejoined Galatasaray from Wolves on a one-and-a-half-year contract, reportedly worth £2 million. The deal includes an option for an additional year. Lemina previously played 28 matches for Galatasaray during a loan spell in the 2019-20 season. His return to the Turkish Super Lig comes after a period of inactivity at Wolves following a disagreement with manager Vitor Pereira.
The Turkish club confirmed negotiations with both Lemina and Wolves before finalising the transfer. This move makes Lemina Galatasaray's third signing during the winter transfer window, which remains open until February 11. Alongside Lemina, Galatasaray has also secured AC Milan striker Alvaro Morata on loan and signed Eyupspor attacker Ahmed Kutucu permanently.

Lemina's time at Wolves saw him make 77 appearances across all competitions, more than he has for any other club in his career. However, his relationship with Wolves soured after losing the captaincy in December following a clash with Jarrod Bowen. This incident occurred after a defeat to West Ham, leading to Gary O'Neil being replaced by Vitor Pereira as head coach.
Upon his return to Galatasaray, Lemina expressed his excitement and commitment to the club. "Everyone knows I love this club. I'm very happy to be back at this great club," he stated. He emphasised his ambition to contribute to the team's success in various competitions like the Champions League and Europa League.
Pereira had previously indicated that Lemina would not feature for Wolves until after the transfer window closed due to his initial refusal to be available for selection. This decision paved the way for Lemina's move back to Turkey, where he looks forward to playing under Okan Buruk's management once again.
The midfielder is eager to reconnect with Galatasaray fans and aims to give his all for both the team and supporters. "Our fans know me. I will give everything for the team and the fans," he said, highlighting his dedication and enthusiasm for contributing positively during his second stint at the club.
Lemina's return aligns with Galatasaray's strategy of strengthening their squad mid-season as they aim for success domestically and in European competitions. His experience and familiarity with the club are expected to bolster their midfield options significantly.
As Galatasaray continues its campaign, they hope that these strategic signings will enhance their chances of achieving their goals across all fronts this season.
