Napoli have announced the termination of Mario Rui's contract, effective immediately. The Portuguese defender initially joined Napoli on loan from Roma in the 2017-18 season and made his move permanent the following year. Over his tenure, Rui played 227 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing 26 assists.

Rui's last goal for Napoli came during a 2-1 victory against SPAL in 2019. He was also instrumental in Napoli's Scudetto-winning campaign in the 2022-23 season, making 22 appearances. Additionally, he was part of the squad that clinched the Coppa Italia four years ago.

Despite signing a contract extension last year to remain with Gli Azzurri until June 2026, Rui has not played this season under new manager Antonio Conte. Napoli are currently second in Serie A standings. The club confirmed that both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent as of December 30, 2024.
