Mark Robins has been named the new manager of Stoke City, signing a contract for three and a half years. He steps in after Narcis Pelach's departure last week, who left the club positioned 18th in the Championship, just four points clear of relegation. Robins becomes Stoke's third manager for the 2024-25 season, having been without a job since Coventry City let him go in October after nearly eight years.
During his second stint at Coventry, Robins managed 387 games, securing 157 wins with a win rate of 39.97%. This success was only surpassed during his time with Rotherham United (43.41%) and his initial period with Coventry (51.52%). He guided Coventry from League Two to the Championship and almost achieved Premier League promotion, reaching the play-off final in 2022-23 but losing to Luton Town.

Last season, Coventry narrowly missed out on the play-offs but reached the FA Cup semi-final, where they pushed Manchester United to penalties. "The warmest of Stoke City welcomes to our new Manager, Mark Robins. Mark will take over following the conclusion of today's match against Burnley, for which Ryan Shawcross remains in caretaker charge," announced Stoke City FC on Twitter.
Stoke City's sporting director Jon Walters praised Robins' achievements at Coventry, stating that he built a successful team with a strong identity and left them better off than when he started. Walters expressed confidence that Robins could replicate this success at Stoke City due to his experience and pedigree.
Robins' immediate goal is to improve Stoke's position in the Championship during this season's second half while establishing a foundation for long-term success. His first match as manager will be against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday. Meanwhile, Ryan Shawcross will continue as caretaker manager for their New Year's Day clash with Burnley.
Robins' appointment brings hope for stability and progress at Stoke City as they aim to climb higher in the league standings and secure a brighter future under his leadership.
