Marseille have strengthened their attacking options by acquiring Igor Paixao from Feyenoord. The Brazilian forward has committed to a five-year deal with the French club, costing them an initial €30 million, potentially rising to €35 million. This move comes shortly after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rejoined Marseille following his stint in Saudi Arabia.
Paixao's decision to join Marseille was influenced by the prospect of playing in the Champions League, despite interest from Leeds United in the Premier League. The 25-year-old's arrival is part of Marseille's strategy to enhance their forward line ahead of the 2025-26 season, even though they were the second-highest scorers in Ligue 1 last year.

During his time at Feyenoord, Paixao made a significant impact. Since joining from Coritiba in 2022, he played 129 matches across all competitions, netting 39 goals and providing 23 assists. In the previous Eredivisie season, only Sem Steijn surpassed his 26 goal contributions for Feyenoord.
Paixao also demonstrated his creativity on the field by creating 70 chances in the Dutch league during the 2024-25 season. Only Souffian El Karouani and Joey Veerman managed more with 75 and 71 chances respectively. His ability to influence play in the final third makes him a valuable addition to Marseille's squad.
The Ligue 1 campaign for Marseille kicks off against Rennes on August 15. With new signings like Paixao and Aubameyang, they aim to build on their previous success and challenge for top honours this season.
Marseille's transfer activities reflect their ambition to compete at higher levels domestically and in Europe. By securing talents like Paixao, they are setting themselves up for a promising future as they prepare for upcoming challenges both in Ligue 1 and continental competitions.
