Marseille Reduces Gap To PSG In Ligue 1 Standings Following Comeback Win Against Rennes

Marseille achieved a crucial comeback victory against Rennes, reducing their deficit to PSG in Ligue 1. Mason Greenwood played a pivotal role, scoring and assisting in the match. This win marks Marseille's strong form since the November international break.

Marseille narrowed the gap to Paris Saint-Germain at the top of Ligue 1 to four points after a comeback victory against Rennes on Saturday. Mason Greenwood was instrumental for Roberto De Zerbi's team, scoring and assisting in their 2-1 win. Arnaud Kalimuendo had initially put Rennes ahead with a goal in the 43rd minute.

Rennes missed an opportunity to extend their lead when Geronimo Rulli saved a penalty shortly after the half-hour mark. This marked the third consecutive penalty save by the Argentine goalkeeper. Greenwood equalised just before half-time, providing Marseille with momentum going into the break. He then assisted Adrien Rabiot for the winning goal early in the second half.

Marseille Closes Gap to PSG with Comeback Win

Marseille has been in excellent form, securing 16 points from a possible 18 since November's international break. This is more than any other team during this period. Meanwhile, PSG aims to increase their lead when they play Saint-Etienne on Sunday.

In other matches, Nice climbed into fourth place following a convincing 4-2 victory over Reims. Evan Guessand opened the scoring for Nice, but Junya Ito quickly equalised six minutes later. Gaetan Laborde scored twice, once from a penalty before halftime and again in the 64th minute, giving Nice a strong lead.

Reims' substitute Mamadou Diakhon offered some hope with a long-range goal, but Ali Abdi restored Nice's two-goal advantage late in the game. Franck Haise's team moved ahead of Lyon, who dropped to fifth after losing 2-1 at Brest earlier that day.

Lyon struggled after conceding an early goal in the eighth minute. Mahdi Camada scored first and later assisted Ludovic Ajorque in extending Brest's lead. Jordan Veretout managed to score for Lyon during first-half stoppage time but failed to find an equaliser afterward.

The weekend results have significantly impacted Ligue 1 standings as teams continue to battle for top positions. Marseille's recent performances have been particularly impressive as they aim to challenge PSG for the title.
