Martin Zubimendi: Arsenal join Race for the Spanish Midfielder

Arsenal have reportedly joined Barcelona and Manchester United in the race to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

The Spain international has been widely linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months with the Catalan giants reportedly eyeing him as a replacement for Sergio Busquets. The veteran midfielder is currently in the final year of his contract with the Blaugrana and looks resigned to leave the club with a move to Inter Miami reportedly on the cards.

However, Xavi Hernandez's side are now set to face competition from Premier League leaders Arsenal for the 24-year-old's signature. Arsenal bolstered their midfield ranks in January with the addition of Jorginho from rivals Chelsea in a £12 million deal. However, the Italy international does not look like a long-term option at the age of 31 and has been handed just an 18-month deal.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Moises Caicedo in January before signing Jorginho and made three failed attempts to land the Ecuador international in January. The Gunners are also thought to be keeping their tabs on West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice. However, Zubimendi could prove to be a solid alternative to both and that too for a much more affordable fee.

Zubimendi has been a crucial player for the Basque club this season, making 24 appearances across competitions. He has scored one goal and has provided three assists. The Spaniard is quite elegant in terms of technique and relies more on his exceptional passing ability and interception skills rather than tackling which makes him a regista and not a destroyer.

The 24-year-old has featured a total of 122 times for Real Sociedad till date having scored four goals and provided five assists in the process. He is also capped once for Spain but was overlooked by Luis Enrique for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Still pretty much in his formative years as a player, Zubimendi looks like a solid prospect and could be a solid addition to Arsenal.
