Mary Fowler expressed immense pride in Manchester City's performance after her decisive goal in the 95th minute secured a victory over Arsenal in the League Cup semi-final. This win came just five days after City faced a narrow 4-3 loss to Arsenal in the Women's Super League. Fowler's late strike ensured a 2-1 triumph, despite an earlier penalty save by Daphne van Domselaar.
Fowler had initially given City the lead, but Mariona Caldentey's penalty brought Arsenal level. Shortly after, City earned their own penalty, but Fowler's shot was saved by Van Domselaar. Head coach Gareth Taylor praised Fowler for her resilience, stating, "It was great. I felt it was a nice moment for us to celebrate." He commended the team's character and Fowler's ability to bounce back from the missed penalty.

City will now face Chelsea, the current Women's Super League leaders, on March 15 for the trophy. Fowler is eager to secure her first major honour with Manchester City since joining in 2022. Reflecting on the match, she said, "It was something to be really proud of. Arsenal always put up a good fight and they played well tonight."
The victory was overshadowed by Khadija Shaw's withdrawal from the squad due to receiving racist and misogynistic abuse following Sunday's defeat to Arsenal. Shaw decided to step back to safeguard her mental health, with Manchester City promising to investigate the offensive messages directed at their top scorer.
"I'm super proud of the girls and how we played," Fowler added. "I felt mostly relief, but I was super happy. I've been wanting to win something with the girls for so long." Her determination and joy were evident as she celebrated being one step closer to achieving that goal.
Taylor acknowledged that while they conceded possession at times, City's persistence paid off. "Sometimes you don't get it," he noted, "but I felt if we were going into extra time, I really fancied us to get a goal because we were knocking on the door a lot tonight." He highlighted Mary's determination as a key factor in their success.
The upcoming final against Chelsea presents an opportunity for Manchester City to claim another title under Taylor's leadership. As they prepare for this challenge, both players and staff remain focused on maintaining their strong form and overcoming any obstacles they face along the way.
