Javier Mascherano acknowledged that Inter Miami was outplayed by a superior team after their 5-1 aggregate loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Lionel Messi and his teammates faced an uphill battle in the second leg, having lost 2-0 in the first leg at BC Place. Despite Jordi Alba's early goal offering hope, Vancouver's second-half performance ended Miami's comeback dreams.
Brian White scored six minutes into the second half, placing his shot into the bottom-right corner. Shortly after, Pedro Vite's deflected shot looped over Oscar Ustari, increasing the aggregate score to 4-1. The match was effectively decided when Sebastian Berhalter volleyed home following a scramble in Miami's area, sealing Vancouver's victory.

With this defeat, Inter Miami will now concentrate on their MLS season. Messi has not scored in four consecutive matches, which is a concern for the team. Meanwhile, Vancouver advances to face either Cruz Azul or Tigres in the final, with those teams tied at 1-1 after their first semi-final leg.
"It hurts because we wanted to reach the final. That would have placed the club in a very important position. Still, we have to accept that they were better," Mascherano stated. He acknowledged that although Inter Miami had previously won the Leagues Cup, the CONCACAF Champions Cup holds more significance in the region.
Mascherano reflected on their journey in this tournament as a consolation despite its current insignificance. Last season, Miami reached the quarter-finals but lost 6-4 on aggregate to Monterrey. Looking ahead, they will play against Al Ahly from Egypt on June 14 in their opening Club World Cup match.
The Herons will also face Palmeiras and Porto in Group A of the Club World Cup. However, Mascherano emphasised focusing on MLS for now: "We now have to keep focusing on MLS. I don't think ahead to the Club World Cup because we are a month and a half away."
Inter Miami has been juggling two competitions for over two months and has performed commendably during this period. As they shift their attention solely to MLS, they aim to build on their recent experiences and improve further.
