Mascherano Commends Suarez's Stellar Performance In Inter Miami's Leagues Cup Win

Javier Mascherano praised Luis Suarez after his impressive display in Inter Miami's 3-1 victory over Pumas UNAM in the Leagues Cup. Despite Lionel Messi's absence, Suarez contributed significantly with a goal and two assists, helping the team advance to the knockout stage.

Inter Miami's head coach, Javier Mascherano, expressed admiration for Luis Suarez following his outstanding display against Pumas UNAM. Suarez played a crucial role in Miami's 3-1 comeback win on Wednesday, assisting Rodrigo De Paul and Tadeo Allende and scoring from the penalty spot. This victory secured Miami's place in the Leagues Cup knockout stage.

With Lionel Messi sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Suarez led the attack. He topped the team with six shots and six touches in the opponent's box while creating three chances. Mascherano was pleased to see Suarez score again, his first since facing Palmeiras in June. "I'm happy for Luis," said Mascherano. "We talked last week about how hard it is for strikers when they don't score."

Mascherano Hails Suarez's Impact in Leagues Cup

Mascherano also praised Miami's performance without Messi, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner. He acknowledged their hard work and adaptability. "I'm very grateful because I know they work hard," he stated. "Sometimes things go well, sometimes not, but they always try to help their teammates and the team."

The coach highlighted Sergio Busquets' quick adaptation to a midfield line of three in the second half as an example of their tactical flexibility. "You don't need to look to the bench," Mascherano noted. "We have excellent players who always try their best." This adaptability was crucial in securing their victory.

Messi had contributed two assists in Miami's Leagues Cup opener against Atlas before his injury during their second match against Necaxa. Tadeo Allende, who scored Miami's third goal against Pumas, is eager for Messi's return. "We feel it quite a bit because he ends plays and starts them," Allende told Apple TV.

Looking Ahead

Allende emphasised the importance of qualifying for the knockout stage and expressed anticipation for Messi's return to action. "Qualifying is a very important step for us," he said. "Let's see how we work and analyse our next opponents; this is step by step." The team remains focused on preparing for future challenges.

The team's ability to adapt without key players like Messi demonstrates their depth and resilience. As they advance in the tournament, maintaining this level of performance will be essential for continued success.
